Comme dans tous les pays chauds, notamment latins et asiatiques, des pays \u00e9galement d\u00e9sireux de donner un sentiment de bien-\u00eatre face au climat parfois excessif qui perturbe une vie calme et agr\u00e9able, l\u2019artiste d\u00e9cide bien souvent de r\u00e9aliser un ou plusieurs \u00e9ventails pour son usage personnel ou tout autant pour le bien-\u00eatre de ses proches, amis et parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une r\u00e9cente cr\u00e9ation du peintre Li Xinjian est l\u2019occasion d\u2019\u00e9voquer succinctement l\u2019importance de l\u2019\u00e9ventail dans la civilisation chinoise durant la p\u00e9riode imp\u00e9riale ou dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 contemporaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u6247\u5b50\u3002\u5c31\u50cf\u5728\u6240\u6709\u70ed\u5e26\u56fd\u5bb6\uff0c\u5c24\u5176\u662f\u62c9\u4e01\u548c\u4e9a\u6d32\u56fd\u5bb6\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e9b\u56fd\u5bb6\u540c\u6837\u6e34\u671b\u5728\u6709\u65f6\u8fc7\u4e8e\u4e25\u9177\u7684\u6c14\u5019\u4e2d\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e00\u79cd\u8212\u9002\u611f\uff0c\u4ee5\u5e94\u5bf9\u6253\u6270\u5b81\u9759\u6109\u60a6\u751f\u6d3b\u7684\u73af\u5883\uff0c\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u5f80\u5f80\u51b3\u5b9a\u4e3a\u81ea\u5df1\u6216\u5176\u4eb2\u8fd1\u7684\u670b\u53cb\u548c\u5bb6\u4eba\u5236\u4f5c\u4e00\u628a\u6216\u591a\u628a\u6247\u5b50\u3002\u6700\u8fd1\uff0c\u753b\u5bb6\u674e\u65b0\u5efa\u7684\u4e00\u4ef6\u521b\u4f5c\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u4e00\u4e2a\u673a\u4f1a\uff0c\u8ba9\u6211\u4eec\u7b80\u8981\u8c08\u8c08\u6247\u5b50\u5728\u4e2d\u56fd\u5e1d\u56fd\u65f6\u671f\u6216\u5f53\u4ee3\u793e\u4f1a\u4e2d\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u6027\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure HISTOIRE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connu en Chine d\u00e8s la dynastie des Shang (1600-1046 av. J. C.),l\u2019\u00e9ventail le plus ancien n&rsquo;est pas encore tenu \u00e0 la main maisutilis\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rente&nbsp;: appel\u00e9&nbsp;<em>Shanhan<\/em>, il est alors utilis\u00e9 par paire et attach\u00e9\u00e0 une voiture tir\u00e9e par des chevaux ;&nbsp;il prot\u00e8ge ainsi les passagers du soleil, de la pluie et du sable. Sa forme \u00e9volue vers celle d\u2019un \u00e9ventail \u00e0 long manche appel\u00e9&nbsp;<em>Zhangshan<\/em>, fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de plumes ou de tissus de soie fins. Son usage est restreint car&nbsp;consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment de l&rsquo;uniforme de la garde d&rsquo;honneur de l&#8217;empereur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il faut attendre la dynastie Han&nbsp;(206 avant JC &#8211; 220 apr\u00e8s J.-C.), en particulier lorsque&nbsp;des \u00e9ventails plus abordables ont \u00e9t\u00e9 invent\u00e9s, pour que des gens du peuple en poss\u00e8dent et un&nbsp;nouveau type d&rsquo;\u00e9ventail en soie a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduit&nbsp;: tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 par les jeunes femmes du palais imp\u00e9rial, cet \u00e9ventail en soie \u00e9tait rond, ressemblant \u00e0 la pleine lune, astre utilis\u00e9 pour le calendrier lunaire. Ces \u00e9ventails ronds sont autant utilis\u00e9s par les hommes que par les femmes. Leur typologie est adapt\u00e9e au rituel de la vie sociale changeant selon la classe et la position sociale&nbsp;: la noblesse, les lettr\u00e9s, les dames de Cour, \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En raison de leur statut privil\u00e9gi\u00e9, les lettr\u00e9s \u2013 souvent des artistes, calligraphes aussi &#8211; en poste \u00e0 la Cour, s\u2019attachent \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de pi\u00e8ces originales o\u00f9 peinture et calligraphie sont compl\u00e9mentaires sur l\u2019une ou les deux faces de ces pi\u00e8ces, collectionn\u00e9es et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9es. Les artistes peintres d&rsquo;\u00e9ventails ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 au maximum leurs capacit\u00e9s cr\u00e9atives, conjuguant po\u00e9sie, peinture et&nbsp;calligraphie sur ces \u0153uvres d\u2019art compl\u00e8tes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019inventivit\u00e9 des cr\u00e9ateurs et artisans est extr\u00eame, s\u2019exerce sur trois formes principales d\u2019\u00e9ventails&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9ventail pliable&nbsp;: popularis\u00e9 durant la dynastie Ming, il est appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 pour sa portabilit\u00e9 et ses m\u00e9canismes ing\u00e9nieux permettant de le replier facilement. Quant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ventail rigide, il est souvent utilis\u00e9 lors des repr\u00e9sentations artistiques, conservant une forme fixe et sert parfois d\u2019accessoire d\u00e9coratif. Enfin, l\u2019\u00e9ventail rond, symbole de douceur et d\u2019harmonie, est fr\u00e9quemment associ\u00e9 aux c\u00e9r\u00e9monies et aux rites traditionnels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SPECIFICITES TECHNIQUES ET CREATION DURANT LA PERIODE IMPERIALE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A titre d\u2019exemple, nous avons choisi un \u00e9ventail de la dynastie Qing. La pi\u00e8ce, provenant d\u2019une ancienne collection chinoise a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par un petit ma\u00eetre de la fin de la dynastie des Qing, actif sous le r\u00e8gne de l\u2019empereur Guangxu (1875-1909), Lin Xueyan. Il est pr\u00e9sent dans les biographies r\u00e9trospectives et cit\u00e9 pour ses peintures de personnages et d\u2019animaux. Il traduit avec simplicit\u00e9 des aspects traditionnels de la vie quotidienne. La constitution d&rsquo;un \u00e9ventail supposait d&rsquo;abord une r\u00e9flexion dans le choix de la structure tout comme du mat\u00e9riau d&rsquo;apparat sur lequel serait repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le sujet. La pi\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 conserv\u00e9e et remont\u00e9e sur un fond, un support, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gal d\u2019une peinture. Cet exemple permet d\u2019introduire davantage de donn\u00e9es sur les sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9s de l\u2019\u00e9ventail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, les lamelles vont avoir des proportions d\u00e9finies, leur nombre varie de 9 \u00e0 36, certains \u00e9ventails en ont 11, 13, 16, 24, ce sont l\u00e0 les armatures les plus fr\u00e9quemment rencontr\u00e9es. Il existe, bien s\u00fbr, la variante \u00e9cran, le corps de la pi\u00e8ce est alors tenu par un manche, ce qui suppose une structure diff\u00e9rente. Les mat\u00e9riaux les plus utilis\u00e9s, le bambou, travaill\u00e9, ponc\u00e9, \u00ab au naturel \u00bb, laqu\u00e9, le bois, ainsi que des mat\u00e9riaux comme l&rsquo;\u00e9caille de tortue, l&rsquo;os, l&rsquo;ivoire, seront les agr\u00e9ments ornementaux sculpt\u00e9s dans la partie inf\u00e9rieure de la pi\u00e8ce, celle qui bien souvent n&rsquo;est pas recouverte d&rsquo;une \u0153uvre originale r\u00e9alis\u00e9e sur papier (le choix est grand) dont le coloris du blanc pur &nbsp;auquel sont donn\u00e9es diff\u00e9rentes colorations, nuances d&rsquo;un jaune p\u00e2le, ou incrustations de fibres v\u00e9g\u00e9tales, ou encore poudres de m\u00e9taux et min\u00e9raux pr\u00e9cieux afin de mettre davantage en valeur le sujet trait\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La soie est \u00e9galement un mat\u00e9riau de choix, plus r\u00e9sistant et souvent plus pr\u00e9cieux que le papier qui, apr\u00e8s un certain temps d&rsquo;utilisation, se d\u00e9chire et suppose que l&rsquo;on conserve sans plus jamais le d\u00e9plier, ou bien qu&rsquo;il soit d\u00e9mont\u00e9, et tel a \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas de cette pi\u00e8ce due \u00e0 Lin Xueyan, restaur\u00e9e, les manques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 combl\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;un mat\u00e9riau tr\u00e8s fin, et contrecoll\u00e9s sur un support plus \u00e9pais, puis entour\u00e9s d&rsquo;une marge en soie qui redonnera \u00e0 l&rsquo;ensemble de la composition un format rectangulaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Des recueils entiers pr\u00e9sentent ces collections patiemment constitu\u00e9es depuis plus de cinq si\u00e8cles. Les peintres des dynasties pass\u00e9es ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 des \u0153uvres raffin\u00e9es dans ce format particulier qui n\u00e9cessite la ma\u00eetrise d&rsquo;une forme pr\u00e9cise pour camper tous sujets : paysages, fleurs et fruits, personnages, animaux, calligraphies&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avec Wen Boren (1502-1575), Qiu Ying (ca 1494-ca 1551) et les grands peintres Ming, ou les excentriques de Yangzhou, tout comme sous les Qing, les \u00e9ventails de commande ou d\u2019\u00e9changes entre lettr\u00e9s sont fr\u00e9quents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les modernes Ding Yanyong (1904-1979), Qi Baishi (1864-1957), Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) &#8230; tous se sont essay\u00e9s \u00e0 ce type de cr\u00e9ation unique, qui n&rsquo;est pas, comme en Occident, jug\u00e9 parfois, \u00e0 tort, purement d\u00e9coratif et sans aucune valeur esth\u00e9tique : un tel jugement n&rsquo;est plus possible quand l&rsquo;on songe que les maximes philosophiques, tao\u00efstes, confucianistes sont calligraphi\u00e9es sur une ou sur les deux faces, ou lorsqu\u2019une calligraphie r\u00e9pond \u00e0 une peinture. Les exemples ne manquent pas, ni ici ni l\u00e0. Les collections constitu\u00e9es par les mus\u00e9es ou par des collectionneurs avis\u00e9s en sont l\u2019illustration tangible. Il effectue ensuite diff\u00e9rents voyages. Il va sur les hauteurs du Tibet puis \u00e0 Paris o\u00f9 il termine un cursus aux Beaux-arts en 1992. Il approfondit sa formation de peintre \u00e0 l\u2019huile et suit les cours de diff\u00e9rents ateliers dont celui de sculpture. Il partage le plus clair de son temps entre son atelier de P\u00e9kin et des lieux internationaux o\u00f9 il participe \u00e0 des expositions personnelles ou de groupes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curieux de tout, le s\u00e9jour au Tibet va \u00eatre source de r\u00e9flexion, de remises en cause intellectuelles, avec notamment une reconsid\u00e9ration des notions de plein et de vide. Il creuse encore plus en profondeur les lectures et \u00e9changes entrepris sur l\u2019apparition, l\u2019\u00e9volution et la permanence du svastika [\u4e07\u5bff\u7b26\u53f7], symbole si controvers\u00e9 en raison des tristes amalgames faits lorsque Hitler reprend ce signe pour le lier \u00e0 son id\u00e9ologie. Il n\u2019emp\u00eache qu\u2019en Extr\u00eame-Orient, le symbole, en particulier pour le&nbsp;bouddhisme&nbsp;Mahayana, ou du Grand V\u00e9hicule, pratiqu\u00e9 notamment en Chine, figure les dix mille m\u00e9rites, le Nirv\u00e2na ; on le retrouve sur la poitrine de Bouddha et de Guanyin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pr\u00e8s de dix ans de recherches aboutissent pour Li Xinjian \u00e0 une universalit\u00e9 du symbole selon les continents et selon aussi les \u00e9poques prises en consid\u00e9ration. L\u2019expression graphique ou textuelle de ce fort symbole inclut des variantes tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes&nbsp;: sociales, sexuelles, \u2026 que Li Xinjian prend la peine de comprendre, d\u2019analyser, de g\u00e9rer et de pr\u00e9senter \u00e0 son lectorat. Sa recherche ainsi men\u00e9e sur une symbolique au fil des continents et&nbsp;\u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9poques en est l\u2019illustration la plus r\u00e9v\u00e9latrice et embl\u00e9matique. Son approche est un peu sauvage. Pourquoi la qualifier ainsi&nbsp;? On sent les copeaux de l\u2019imaginaire d\u2019un artiste influenc\u00e9 par les variantes de cette forme pregnante de myst\u00e8res intrins\u00e8ques&nbsp;: selon les temps pris en consid\u00e9ration, le sens sera soit l\u00e9ger et intellectuel, soit tr\u00e8s lourd et sexu\u00e9, c\u2019est, du moins, ce qui ressort de la lecture de ce&nbsp;<em>Trait\u00e9 des ombres<\/em>&nbsp;encore in\u00e9dit, les ombres des envies humaines&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le tout, rassembl\u00e9 dans un manuscrit riche et touffu, permet bien des lectures possibles&nbsp;: ainsi nul besoin de commencer par le chapitre initial, on peut tr\u00e8s justement commencer par la fin, ou bien ne vouloir lire que les figures\u2026 L\u2019intelligence du livre se d\u00e9veloppe sur deux parties, la premi\u00e8re impose une n\u00e9cessaire approche historique, d\u00e9brid\u00e9e et libre. La deuxi\u00e8me partie fait p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans l\u2019application pratique de la th\u00e9orie de son auteur. Apr\u00e8s avoir vu, r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi, th\u00e9oris\u00e9 ce motif, Li Xinjian l\u2019extrait de sa gangue historique&nbsp;pour qu\u2019il se transmue en une sorte de matrice virtuelle multipliable \u00e0 l\u2019infini&nbsp;! Il est ainsi dans la continuit\u00e9 des grandes qu\u00eates que l\u2019on retrouve par exemple avec ces matrices grav\u00e9es de bouddhas et des bodhisatvas appliqu\u00e9s sur les murs des grottes de Mogao, \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de Dunhuang ou calligraphi\u00e9s, trac\u00e9s, dessin\u00e9s, sur les feuilles de papier d\u00e9couvertes dans ces m\u00eames grottes. Le motif architectural a, insensiblement, chang\u00e9 de contexte, s\u2019est ouvert \u00e0 un autre environnement, \u00e0 d\u2019autres microcosmes, au monde int\u00e9rieur de l\u2019artiste, celui dans lequel le cr\u00e9ateur se r\u00e9fugie, s\u2019isole, fait ses exp\u00e9rimentations, celui, ext\u00e9rieur, dans lequel l\u2019artiste vit, son atelier, en fait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La toute r\u00e9cente cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce unique renvoie \u00e0 l\u2019importance de l\u2019art comme dynamique d\u2019\u00e9change entre individus, lien social et vecteur d\u2019interpr\u00e9tations autres des \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturels qui contribuent \u00e0 donner \u00e0 l\u2019individu sa place entre diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9chelles, celle de l\u2019univers, macrocosmique et celle de l\u2019homme, microcosme complet. Apr\u00e8s ses parcours th\u00e9matiques entre mers et montagnes, Li Xinjian prolonge ses odyss\u00e9es au pays du r\u00eave, des espaces en infinis multiples, avec les techniques de l\u2019huile, du lavis, de l\u2019encre, assimil\u00e9es avec brio et enthousiasme par ce chasseur d\u2019images, de conqu\u00eates dont la puissance stylistique lui a permis de se livrer \u00e0 toutes sortes de cr\u00e9ations c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9es par les instances artistiques des lieux culturels de Chine et de France.
