Le livre a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 aux Rencontres d\u2019Arles 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La fin du mois de novembre \u00e0 Paris, la nuit tombe de plus en plus t\u00f4t. Ombres et lumi\u00e8res s\u2019animent et scintillent au fond du passage menant \u00e0 la galerie Younique*. C\u2019est le vernissage de l\u2019exposition du photographe p\u00e9ruvien Marco Garro qui pr\u00e9sente pour la premi\u00e8re fois les photographies de son livre&nbsp;<em>Quiulacocha<\/em>. Il commence des \u00e9tudes de Communication \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Lima et re\u00e7oit deux bourses d&rsquo;\u00e9tudes qui lui permettent de suivre les ateliers de la Fundacion Nuevo Periodisimo Iberoamericano \u00ab Environnement \u00bb et \u00ab Violence \u00bb, des th\u00e9matiques qui l\u2019int\u00e9ressent depuis maintenant une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es et qu\u2019il traite \u00e0 travers des reportages pour diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9dias (Wall Street Journal, Le Monde, Financial Times, El Pais, La Tercera, Private, Soho). Autrement, Il expose son travail dans le cadre d\u2019expositions collectives ou individuelles. A Lima : Center of the Image, Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain, Galerie Ojo Ajeno, Ricardo Palma Cultural Center ; \u00e0 la Somerset House de Londres ; \u00e0 la <em>Bienal Argentina de Fotograf\u00eda Documental<\/em> ou encore au Festival <em>Visa Pour l\u2019Image<\/em> \u00e0 Perpignan. En 2018, il a effectu\u00e9 une r\u00e9sidence photographique au mus\u00e9e du quai Branly &#8211; Jacques chirac. Apr\u00e8s y avoir fait plusieurs visites en tant que photo-reporter, Marco Garro s\u2019est int\u00e9ress\u00e9 aux habitants de la ville confront\u00e9s au contexte minier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marco Guerro a visit\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois Cerro de Pasco, la plus ancienne colonie mini\u00e8re du P\u00e9rou, il y a deux d\u00e9cennies. Il y est retourn\u00e9 plus d&rsquo;une douzaine de fois. La ville a \u00e9t\u00e9 construite au milieu de montagnes charg\u00e9es d&rsquo;argent, de cuivre et de zinc, dans un coin glacial des Andes centrales, \u00e0 une altitude vertigineuse de 4 300 m\u00e8tres. Pendant la majeure partie de son histoire, Cerro de Pasco a \u00e9t\u00e9 le joyau de la couronne, de la vorace industrie mini\u00e8re p\u00e9ruvienne, un lieu o\u00f9 les conquistadors espagnols et les magnats am\u00e9ricains ont fait fortune. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Lorsque je suis arriv\u00e9, en tant que photojournaliste pour un journal de la capitale, Lima, la ville \u00e9tait en d\u00e9clin depuis des d\u00e9cennies. Le paysage d\u00e9labr\u00e9 ressemblait \u00e0 un champ de bataille. Une \u00e9norme mine \u00e0 ciel ouvert s&rsquo;enfon\u00e7ait en spirale dans la terre, \u00e9voquant les cercles concentriques de l&rsquo;enfer de Dante. Le long de ses bords, des maisons s&rsquo;\u00e9croulent dans des quartiers abandonn\u00e9s. Dans d&rsquo;autres, la vie se poursuivait au milieu d&rsquo;amas de d\u00e9chets toxiques, offrant un aper\u00e7u dystopique d&rsquo;un avenir de ruine \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour le projet visuel <em>Quiulacocha<\/em>, Marco Garro utilise l&rsquo;alchimie photographique, comme m\u00e9taphore de l&rsquo;impact de l&rsquo;exploitation mini\u00e8re sur la sant\u00e9 des habitants de Cerro de Pasco. Le photographe p\u00e9ruvien a recueilli des \u00e9chantillons de r\u00e9sidus miniers d\u00e9vers\u00e9s dans ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 le lac Quiulacocha afin de les utiliser dans le d\u00e9veloppement des photographies. Le liquide toxique laisse des marques et des textures sur les \u00e9preuves photographiques rappelant la mani\u00e8re dont la contamination marque la vie et l&rsquo;environnement local. \u00ab&nbsp;Mon intention est de r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les effets corrosifs de l&rsquo;exploitation mini\u00e8re sur la sant\u00e9 et l&rsquo;environnement que nous pr\u00e9f\u00e9rons souvent ne pas voir \u00bb nous dit Garro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* La Galerie Younique fond\u00e9e \u00e0 Paris en 2005 par Mathias Bloch est sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e en art contemporain (peinture, photographie, sculpture, installation et vid\u00e9o). La galerie cr\u00e9e un pont entre la France et l\u2019Am\u00e9rique Latine en valorisant l\u2019art fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger et en repr\u00e9sentant l\u2019art latino-am\u00e9ricain en Europe.
