Un regard \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre de Liu Xianfeng \u2013 Quentin Liu \u2013 en est une des illustrations actuelles\u00a0: un parcours qui rappelle les amalgames structurants entre deux cultures, surtout lorsque celles-ci, assimil\u00e9es, v\u00e9cues au fil du temps et des \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui passent, deviennent des marqueurs \u00e0 valeur autre\u2026<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Quentin Liu [\u5218\u9669\u5cf0] na\u00eet en 1978 dans la province m\u00e9ridionale du Hunan, aire g\u00e9ographique et politique situ\u00e9e \u00e0 plus de 1\u00a0300\u00a0km\u00a0de\u00a0P\u00e9kin au nord, \u00e0 quelque 900\u00a0km\u00a0de\u00a0Shanghai \u00e0 l\u2019est et \u00e0 300\u00a0km\u00a0de\u00a0Canton au sud. Le\u00a0Yangzijiang \u2014 le Fleuve Bleu \u2014 la traverse d&rsquo;ouest en est.<\/p>\n<p>Arriv\u00e9 en France \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 24 ans, en 2002, apr\u00e8s un cursus aux Beaux-arts et dans une \u00e9cole de photographie, il oriente sa cr\u00e9ation vers la peinture, m\u00e9dium qu\u2019il juge le plus libre pour sa cr\u00e9ation artistique.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>De la biographie<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Quelques \u00e9l\u00e9ments biographiques publi\u00e9s sur le blog de l\u2019artiste rappellent qu\u2019 \u00ab <em>en 2011, il op\u00e8re un tournant majeur dans le th\u00e8me de ses cr\u00e9ations artistiques. Avant cette date, la mode et le consum\u00e9risme \u00e9taient ses principaux sujets. Mais son exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 P\u00e9kin de 2007 \u00e0 2013 le change profond\u00e9ment. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, il est t\u00e9moin du changement radical de l&rsquo;art contemporain chinois, passant d&rsquo;une prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 presque new-yorkaise \u00e0 une r\u00e9pression \u00e0 la nord-cor\u00e9enne. Il prend conscience du r\u00f4le important de l&rsquo;artiste en tant que lanceur d&rsquo;alerte\u00a0\u00bb. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019artiste, rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 Mac 2000 en novembre 2022, a insist\u00e9 sur ce dernier point, montrant combien un t\u00e9moignage est important, surtout lorsqu\u2019&rsquo;il est possible d\u2019aller au bout de sa cr\u00e9ation pour que l\u2019\u0153uvre achev\u00e9e en soit cette preuve, ce d\u00e9veloppement complexe d\u2019une id\u00e9e, d\u2019une certitude.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis 2014, Quentin Liu vit et travaille en r\u00e9gion parisienne. Dans ses \u0153uvres les plus r\u00e9centes, son questionnement et sa critique de certains ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes sociaux sont devenus de plus en plus aigus.<\/p>\n<p>Diff\u00e9rentes \u0153uvres, r\u00e9alis\u00e9es jusqu\u2019en 2015, narrent avec une certaine libert\u00e9, non sans des rappels structurels et formels fr\u00e9quents aux gravures sur bois des dynasties Ming et Qing, des sc\u00e8nes o\u00f9 des accessoires et \u00e9l\u00e9ments de la Chine imp\u00e9riale reparaissent, en parall\u00e8le \u00e0 d\u2019autres, plus franchement repris \u00e0 la p\u00e9riode des ann\u00e9es 60-70. Quelques nus disent ce plaisir de la libert\u00e9 de repr\u00e9sentation de formes autrement appr\u00e9ci\u00e9es dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 chinoise, surtout lorsqu\u2019elles ont, de surcro\u00eet, un r\u00f4le critique imm\u00e9diat\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Des t\u00e9moignages intermondialis\u00e9s\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>En 2010, Quentin Liu re\u00e7oit \u00e0 P\u00e9kin le prix du public \u00ab Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale Chinese Art Awards\u00a0\u00bb. Il a, depuis lors, expos\u00e9 \u00e0 Paris, Bruxelles, P\u00e9kin, Hong Kong, Tokyo et Singapour. On trouve \u00e9galement ses \u0153uvres sur des sites comme Artsy et Saatchiart.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ann\u00e9e 2022 semble favorable \u00e0 ce cr\u00e9ateur qui est invit\u00e9, comme le rappellent les organisateurs, Annick et Louis Doucet \u00ab\u00a0apr\u00e8s s\u00e9lection sur dossier et \u00e0 l\u2019issue d\u2019une visite d\u2019atelier\u00a0\u00bb, au salon Mac 2000 qui s\u2019est tenu du 14 au 19 novembre 2022 dans l\u2019ancienne imprimerie du boulevard Richard Lenoir, devenue lieu d\u2019expositions temporaires diverses. Quentin Liu a pu y pr\u00e9senter une s\u00e9rie d\u2019une dizaine d\u2019\u0153uvres r\u00e9centes qui sont un \u00e9tat des lieux plaisant de sa conception sociale de l\u2019art.<\/p>\n<p>Un texte de l\u2019artiste paru lors d\u2019une exposition organis\u00e9e en janvier dernier \u00ab\u00a0In\u00e9vitable collision\u00a0\u00bb [\u4e0d\u53ef\u907f\u514d\u7684\u78b0\u649e], au <strong>Patronage la\u00efque Jules Vall\u00e8s sis \u00e0 Paris 15<sup>e<\/sup>,<\/strong> <strong>explique cette position face aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui secouent le monde et l\u2019interrogation que les bouleversements g\u00e9opolitiques suscitent\u00a0:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Dans la seconde moiti\u00e9 du si\u00e8cle dernier, de nombreux politiciens et intellectuels occidentaux croyaient que si les pays totalitaires ou communistes pouvaient d\u00e9velopper leurs \u00e9conomies, les libert\u00e9s individuelles et les institutions d\u00e9mocratiques de leurs pays se d\u00e9velopperaient naturellement. La Chine communiste \u00e9tait le terrain d\u2019essai de cette th\u00e9orie \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque. Quarante ans ont pass\u00e9 : la pand\u00e9mie de COVID, la crise \u00e9conomique, les divisions ethniques, les violences&#8230; Les d\u00e9mocraties sont de plus en plus vuln\u00e9rables. D\u2019autre part, la Chine communiste devient plus forte et plus agressive. O\u00f9 vont l\u2019Europe et le monde ? Que devrions-nous faire ? Tels devraient \u00eatre les principaux probl\u00e8mes auxquels les citoyens de chaque pays libre sont confront\u00e9s en ce moment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On retrouve dans la probl\u00e9matique et dans l\u2019affichage des th\u00e8mes de ce cr\u00e9ateur, apparemment d\u00e9bonnaire, des marqueurs proches de ceux de quelques confr\u00e8res tels les fr\u00e8res Gao \u2013 [Gao Zhen \u9ad8\u515fet Gao Qiang\u9ad8\u5f3a (1956, 1962, Jinan)] &#8211; et de Wang Xingwei \u738b\u5174\u4f1f (1969, Shenyang).<\/p>\n<p>Chez les deux premiers, la contestation na\u00eet d\u2019une part d\u2019installations pr\u00f4nant une tol\u00e9rance autre et d\u2019autre part d\u2019\u0153uvres peintes \u00e0 l\u2019acrylique, de photos num\u00e9riques rassemblant des humains dans des gigabo\u00eetes pour un consum\u00e9risme triomphant. Par ailleurs, leurs sculptures en r\u00e9sine pr\u00e9sentant le Grand Timonier devenu un personnage digne du <em>Classique des monts et des mers<\/em> leur vaut des d\u00e9m\u00eal\u00e9es cherch\u00e9es avec un pouvoir qui a une autre conception de l\u2019art. S\u2019il est vrai que la violence formelle du pouvoir chinois face \u00e0 des cr\u00e9ateurs surprend l\u2019Occident, il n\u2019emp\u00eache que des formes de violences autres, notamment l\u2019excommunication et le pilori virtuels, sont toujours pratiqu\u00e9es en Occident et redevenues f\u00e9roces depuis le surpouvoir des r\u00e9seaux locaux dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 face \u00e0 l\u2019individu qui, en l\u2019occurrence, se trouve parfois humili\u00e9 voire l\u2019objet de cyberviolence. Ce qui donne, certes, \u00e0 l\u2019individu, le droit d\u2019exister, mais sans aucun para\u00eetre officiel, ce dernier statut \u00e9tant r\u00e9serv\u00e9 \u00e0 une autre classe sociale\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Quant \u00e0 Wang Xingwei, sa culture lui permet de jouer par un brouillage de la lecture des \u0153uvres tr\u00e8s sollicit\u00e9es en introduisant dans ses peintures des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de l\u2019histoire sainte ou de citations formelles dues \u00e0 des peintres classiques comme Nicolas Poussin (1594, Les Andelys \u2013 1665, Rome), Claude Mellan (1598, Abbeville-1688, Paris). Il n\u2019emp\u00eache que sa critique virulente contre le formalisme et le conformisme social sont d\u2019une \u00e9l\u00e9gante f\u00e9rocit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est, deux d\u00e9cennies plus tard, en alliant ma\u00eetrise technique et citations inopportunes, frontales et d\u00e9rangeantes que Quentin Liu attire par ses narrations d\u00e9cal\u00e9es, le regard des visiteurs qui ont voulu, lors de ce Salon, en (sa)voir davantage\u2026<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019art de l\u2019horrible et du merveilleux\u00a0!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>S\u00e9lection Mais, afin de mieux comprendre la philosophie aimable de la vie de cet artiste, le premier paragraphe traitant d\u2019un pan autobiographique de cet artiste et heureux p\u00e8re de famille est livr\u00e9 en traduction aux lecteurs de ce blog unique :<\/p>\n<p><em>Sept ans, un laps de temps ni court ni long. Mais, si quelqu\u2019un vient me demander quel a \u00e9t\u00e9, au cours de ces sept derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es mon travail pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9, il ne fait aucun doute qu\u2019il s\u2019agit de nos deux b\u00e9b\u00e9s Zixi<\/em><em>\u7d2b\u6eaa<\/em><em> et Haoquan<\/em><em>\u6d69\u6cc9<\/em><em>. Bien s\u00fbr, des amis nous demandent souvent si nous voulons avoir un troisi\u00e8me b\u00e9b\u00e9 ! M\u00eame si j\u2019aime les b\u00e9b\u00e9s et si la naissance d\u2019un troisi\u00e8me b\u00e9b\u00e9 en France suscite nombre de tentations d\u2019aide sociale non imposables, Wendy et moi avons quand m\u00eame r\u00e9pondu \u00e0 l\u2019unisson : Non ! En effet, quel que soit le pays dans lequel vous vivez, il n\u2019est pas facile d\u2019\u00eatre parent, et il est encore plus difficile pour un artiste d\u2019arriver \u00e0 un \u00e9quilibre face \u00e0 ces trois obstacles montagneux que sont cr\u00e9er, gagner sa vie et \u00e9lever des enfants. D\u2019o\u00f9 notre r\u00e9ponse commune voulant qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019avenir, nos \u0153uvres d\u2019art seront nos enfants, et nous en aurons beaucoup, beaucoup plus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s que possible, une traduction compl\u00e8te sera peut-\u00eatre publi\u00e9e\u2026 Cela dit, il vient de moins en moins \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e de prendre la peine de traduire en fran\u00e7ais un texte anglais, tant cette langue est impos\u00e9e dans l\u2019Europe des 27, Europe \u00e0 laquelle n\u2019appartient aucun pays anglophone\u00a0! En cette troisi\u00e8me d\u00e9cennie du 21<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, esp\u00e9rons que la langue chinoise dont l\u2019apprentissage est plus d\u00e9licat, va continuer sa perc\u00e9e en Occident, ne serait-ce que pour mod\u00e9rer un peu cette supr\u00e9matie unique et insupportable de l\u2019anglais. L\u2019id\u00e9al \u00e9tant que plusieurs langues soient pr\u00e9sentes et repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans les moyens d\u2019expression du quotidien. Le d\u00e9bat devient autre
