Coll. priv\u00e9e<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Sanyu (Chang Y\u00fc <\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u5e38\u7389<\/span><span class=\"s1\">) (1901, Nanchong \u2013 1966, Pantin) na\u00eet dans la province du Sichuan au sein d\u2019une<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0famille poss\u00e9dant l\u2019une des plus grandes usines de tissage de soie du Sichuan, la Dehe Silk Factory, que dirigeait son fr\u00e8re a\u00een\u00e9, Chang Junmin. Le jeune gar\u00e7on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">commence \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la calligraphie avec Zhao Xi (1877\u2013 1938), il a alors douze ans. En 1919, il passe un an au Japon o\u00f9 il approfondit l\u2019aspect technique de cet art, puis il s\u2019installe \u00e0 Paris deux ans apr\u00e8s et r\u00e9sidera dans la capitale fran\u00e7aise jusqu\u2019\u00e0 son d\u00e9c\u00e8s. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Paris, ville de rencontres<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">Sanyu, un peu comme Tang Haiwen, s\u2019immerge, le reste de sa vie, dans le monde de l\u2019art, menant une vie libre et sociale dans son milieu d\u2019accueil, quelque peu diff\u00e9rente de celle de ses pairs, tels Xu Beihong ou Pan Yuliang, parmi les premiers \u00e9tudiants chinois envoy\u00e9s \u00e9tudier l\u2019art en France \u00e0 l\u2019incitation du gouvernement chinois. En 1928, il \u00e9pouse Marcelle, et, malgr\u00e9 des achats d\u2019\u0153uvres r\u00e9alis\u00e9s jusqu\u2019en 1932 par le marchand Henri-Pierre Roch\u00e9 qui <\/span><span class=\"s4\">rassemble 111 peintures et 600 dessins en ce court laps de temps, l<\/span><span class=\"s1\">e couple ne va pas tarder \u00e0 conna\u00eetre le manque d\u2019argent en raison des envois moins r\u00e9guliers puis suspendus de son fr\u00e8re Chang Jumin. Sanyu participe aux diff\u00e9rents salons, dont, notamment au Salon d\u2019Automne de 1925, est captiv\u00e9 par les courants impressionniste et fauve ; il expose au mus\u00e9e d\u2019Art moderne en 1948. Le mus\u00e9e national d\u2019Histoire de Taipei collectionne un fonds constitu\u00e9 d\u2019une quarantaine d\u2019\u0153uvres. Le mus\u00e9e Guimet lui a consacr\u00e9 une importante exposition en 2004. Son style, calligraphique, privil\u00e9gie des \u0153uvres ayant comme sujet des personnages f\u00e9minins, des nus dessin\u00e9s au contour, au trait noir appuy\u00e9 et contrastant sur une simplicit\u00e9 morphologique. Il a \u00e9galement peint nombre de paysages \u00e0 la polychromie forte et influenc\u00e9s par le courant fauve. Ses bouquets, compositions florales et bonsa\u00ef dont pr\u00e8s de deux cents sont connus \u00e0 ce jour, montrent un raffinement nourri et une complexit\u00e9 extr\u00eame <\/span><span class=\"s5\">(ill.1)<\/span><span class=\"s1\">. Paris\u00a0: Lamarget, 1930.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Trois eaux-fortes de Sanyu. 306 ex. dont 290 sur v\u00e9lin d\u2019Arches.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">[L\u2019\u00e9tude Fauve Paris a dispers\u00e9 un ex. de cet ouvrage en 2020]<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Contemporain d\u2019artistes &#8211; outre la forte influence d\u2019Henri Matisse (1869-1954), &#8211; comme Kees Van Dongen (1877, Rotterdam\u20131968, Monaco), Pablo Picasso (1881, Malaga\u20131973, Mougins), Jules Pascin [Julius Mordecai Pincas] (1885, Vidin, Bulgarie\u20131930, Paris), Jean Dubuffet (1901, Le Havre\u20131985, Paris)\u2026, l\u2019existence v\u00e9cue hors de sa patrie a suscit\u00e9 des rencontres multiples ; sa connaissance de la langue fran\u00e7aise associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une sensibilit\u00e9 tr\u00e8s fine pour le milieu \u00e9l\u00e9gant du Paris de l\u2019\u00e9poque, a conduit \u00e0 une sinisation autre de ses mod\u00e8les, l\u2019approche a permis \u00e0 des publics tr\u00e8s divers et aussi diff\u00e9rents que peuvent l\u2019\u00eatre des collectionneurs d\u2019Est ou d\u2019Ouest de vouloir assez vite poss\u00e9der ses toiles, dessins comme ses gravures sur cuivre <\/span><span class=\"s5\">(ill.2) <\/span><span class=\"s1\">ou ses linogravures. Avec le temps, les recherches sur cet artiste ont permis de voir la sensibilit\u00e9 avec laquelle il s\u2019est laiss\u00e9 influencer, voire s\u00e9duire, par ses contemporains. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Des formes et des couleurs<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">Une s\u00e9duction du trait, de la couleur parcourt son oeuvre, sans pour autant qu\u2019elle se laisse phagocyter ni absorber. Les th\u00e8mes, celui du nu en particulier, reviennent, empreints d\u2019une douceur presque absente autant qu\u2019ils ont la frontalit\u00e9 crue que l\u2019on retrouvera chez Walasse Ting quelques d\u00e9cennies plus tard. Dans un premier temps, sa pr\u00e9occupation est l\u2019\u00e9tude du nu, les esquisses nombreuses qu\u2019il r\u00e9alise d\u2019apr\u00e8s mod\u00e8le montrent la puissance de son approche calligraphique pour le rendu de notations rapides et talentueuses. C\u2019est \u00e0 partir de 1929 qu\u2019il commence v\u00e9ritablement \u00e0 peindre des nus sur toile, il n\u2019en continue pas moins de produire des dessins nombreux et l\u00e9gers. Quant \u00e0 la p\u00e9riode 1930-1940, de loin la plus f\u00e9conde, la plus riche en changements, un divorce, le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement de Malakoff \u00e0 Paris, une reconnaissance qui accueille favorablement son travail, autant d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments qui lui permettent de peindre avec une force nouvelle. Ses \u0153uvres sont \u00e0 la fois figuratives, paisibles et harmonieuses. Elles annoncent d\u00e9j\u00e0 un besoin intime de r\u00e9v\u00e9ler davantage ses go\u00fbts, qui, \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es quarante assument un tournant, une m\u00e9tamorphose en plein : ce qu\u2019il est convenu de nommer modernisme inattendu devient une sorte de th\u00e9rapie toute personnelle des sens. Les nus deviennent \u00e0 la fois graphiques et plus monumentaux, les lignes, parfois reprises, soulign\u00e9es, gagnent en puissance. La p\u00e9riode qui annonce la maturit\u00e9 voit l\u2019ex\u00e9cution de grandes compositions figurant de vastes paysages, \u00e9tranges et sauvages, bien \u00e9loign\u00e9s des repr\u00e9sentations de jardins publics qui ont assez longtemps intrigu\u00e9 et captiv\u00e9 ce jeune sichuanais habitu\u00e9 \u00e0 des villes diff\u00e9remment structur\u00e9es et moins ouvertes aux rencontres que pouvait l\u2019\u00eatre le Paris de l\u2019apr\u00e8s-guerre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">T\u00e9moin toujours dans l\u2019ombre mais bien pr\u00e9sent, Fran\u00e7oise Pitt-Rivers, femme de lettres, doit, prochainement publier un livre, L<i>a petite libraire<\/i>, o\u00f9 il est question de sa m\u00e8re, collectionneuse et amatrice d\u2019art avis\u00e9e, qui, d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 20 \u2014 Sanyu arrive en France en 1921 \u2014 a l\u2019occasion d\u2019acheter des \u0153uvres du peintre dont elle brosse un portrait de circonstance\u00a0: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00ab\u00a0mes parents ont toujours eu la passion des collections et \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s d\u00e9sireux de poss\u00e9der des \u0153uvres de jeunes artistes, que ces derniers soient occidentaux ou originaires d\u2019autres contr\u00e9es. La personnalit\u00e9 de Sanyu \u00e9tait assez effac\u00e9e, il parlait peu. Plut\u00f4t fin, soign\u00e9, un jade c\u00e9ladon de forme rectangulaire surmontait la chevali\u00e8re qu\u2019il portait au m\u00e9dium, renfor\u00e7ant ainsi une impression de raffinement et d\u2019exotisme. Nous l\u2019avons rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, notamment rue de la Sabli\u00e8re, o\u00f9 il avait d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 apr\u00e8s son divorce. Nous avions vu parmi ses sujets, assez r\u00e9currents, portant sur plusieurs de ses centres d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat, ses sc\u00e8nes d\u2019int\u00e9rieur, notamment des poissons rouges en bocal sur fond de tapisserie int\u00e9rieure, comme Matisse et Derain en peignaient alors. Il avait aussi un plaisir \u00e9vident \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation des bouquets de plusieurs types\u00a0: les plus classiques qui \u00e9taient disponibles \u00e9taient parfois inspir\u00e9s de mod\u00e8les asiatiques ou encore marqu\u00e9s par la g\u00e9om\u00e9trisation de l\u2019art d\u00e9coratif\u00a0;
