C\u2019est ce qui se profile pour ce cr\u00e9ateur assez anticonformiste et tenant d\u2019une approche complexe pour une cr\u00e9ation totale.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ann\u00e9e 2020 lui a permis d\u2019\u00eatre \u00e0 l\u2019honneur \u00e0 la Biblioth\u00e8que nationale du Luxembourg au fil d\u2019un floril\u00e8ge exceptionnel d\u2019\u0153uvres marquantes qui racontent ses parcours.<\/p>\n<p>Cr\u00e9ateur f\u00e9cond \u00e0 l\u2019univers complexe et prot\u00e9iforme, Jo\u00ebl Leick est structur\u00e9 d\u2019une fa\u00e7on s\u00e9duisante, effrayante, attirante autant que perturbante. Plusieurs territoires \u2014 en fait plus de huit \u2014 se partagent et marquent les bolges d\u2019un univers o\u00f9 les actes qui y sont \u00e9gren\u00e9s sentent le soufre, celui de la connaissance, du raffinement et du plaisir, trois ingr\u00e9dients r\u00e9pandus au fil des \u0153uvres qui jalonnent ces territoires. Comme je l\u2019avais \u00e9num\u00e9r\u00e9 dans un article r\u00e9cent de la revue <em>Art et m\u00e9tiers du livre <\/em> (2020, 338), les \u0153uvres se r\u00e9partissent selon ces cat\u00e9gories aussi parfaites que fluctuantes, parfois en surimpressions \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res\u00a0: livre d\u2019artiste (1), livre de dialogue (2), correspondance avec Michel Butor (3), hommage \u00e0 Rimbaud (4), s\u00e9rie Corps-paysage v\u00e9cu (5), s\u00e9rie \u00c9l\u00e9ments du paysage (6), s\u00e9rie Paesaggio (7), s\u00e9rie Nature des choses (8). Comentale<\/p><\/div>\n<p>par Christophe Comentale<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Jo\u00ebl Leick (Thionville, 1961, Paris, d\u00e8s 2001) est, depuis plusieurs d\u00e9cennies, l\u2019h\u00f4te de lieux prestigieux, le Grolier Club de New York, le mus\u00e9e Paul Val\u00e9ry \u00e0 S\u00e8te, les fondations Auer Ory (Gen\u00e8ve) et Bodmer (Cologny), mus\u00e9e national de Dunhuang (Chine)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Ce cr\u00e9ateur prot\u00e9iforme, peint, \u00e9crit, photographie, improvise, manipule. Il d\u00e9coupe aussi comme il joue des rehauts incontr\u00f4lables du r\u00e9el et des mat\u00e9riaux. Les papiers qui lui passent entre les mains sont des supports et aussi des \u00e9l\u00e9ments d\u2019une \u0153uvre \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n<p>Un catalogue document\u00e9 et tr\u00e8s illustr\u00e9 accompagne cette exposition r\u00e9trospective\u00a0:\u00a0Thionville, Troyes et Luxembourg, o\u00f9 la biblioth\u00e8que nationale l\u2019accueille au printemps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>De la diversit\u00e9 des approches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Traiter de la cr\u00e9ation de Jo\u00ebl Leick suppose un regard \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents ingr\u00e9dients\u00a0: l\u2019huile, le lavis, le crayon, la cire, les pigments divers et la t\u00e9r\u00e9benthine\u00a0; quant aux formats des \u0153uvres r\u00e9alis\u00e9es, ils sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 des approches exp\u00e9rimentales ou s\u00e9rielles, assez voisines de celles de ses livres, soit en feuilles, \u00e0 l\u2019occidentale, soit au fil des folios des carnets-accord\u00e9ons [terme plus large et plus juste en raison des papiers et formats parfois utilis\u00e9s, et aussi quelque peu \u00e9loign\u00e9s du format du carnet de bal de Dom Juan\u2026] comme le 28 mai \u00e0 18 heures, apr\u00e8s une lecture du <em>Livre voyageur<\/em>, il va r\u00e9aliser <em>Impr\u00e9gnation(s)<\/em>, trois livres peints de 6 m\u00e8tres de long chacun.<\/p>\n<p>Si l\u2019on s\u2019en tient \u00e0 la forme que rev\u00eat son \u0153uvre, le livre est sans conteste son territoire par excellence\u00a0: des feuilles pli\u00e9es sur lesquelles il peint et qu\u2019il assemble en cahiers, intervenant seul ou en bin\u00f4me avec un \u00e9crivain. Depuis 1993, ses livres d\u2019artiste sont \u00e0 mi-chemin entre manuscrits et imprim\u00e9s dans lesquels la photographie et le polaro\u00efd tiennent une place aussi importante que ce qui a longtemps sign\u00e9 son travail de peintre : la tache, la coulure. (1996), Bomarzo (2008), dont <em>Nature<\/em> ou le <em>Journal de l\u2019aspect,<\/em> 11 volumes sont parus \u00e0 ce jour. Pierre Bergounioux, Hubert Lucot, Gilbert Lascault, sont de ceux-l\u00e0.
