Le d\u00e9sert de Gobi dans la province du Xinjiang, les r\u00e9gions montagneuses de l\u2019ouest de la Chine avec les provinces du Sichuan et du Guizhou sont autant de lieux propices \u00e0 une cr\u00e9ation originale.<\/p>\n<p>Outre le lavis, Zhou Qixiang a aussi un \u0153uvre sculpt\u00e9, en bronze, qui traduit les attitudes de vie des gens de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 chinoise qui l\u2019entoure.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019exposition parisienne a privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 des formats moyens tant pour les peintures au lavis que pour les sculptures. Un nombre important de pi\u00e8ces \u00e9tait r\u00e9alis\u00e9 sur carton, traduisant des formes d\u2019\u00e9ventail, des tondi, formes dites <em>en pleine lune<\/em>, de m\u00eame que des compositions doubl\u00e9es sur papier xuan constituaient cet ensemble o\u00f9 l\u2019encre reste l\u2019ossature de l\u2019oeuvre tandis que le pigment permet une polychromie discr\u00e8te.<\/p>\n<p>Les sujets sont autant des paysages, ceux, justement, rencontr\u00e9s au fil des voyages, et restitu\u00e9s comme autant de souvenirs narr\u00e9s pour soi et autour de soi. Des sc\u00e8nes de village, nombreuses, disent aussi l\u2019importance du quotidien, celui des d\u00e9tails qui ponctuent les faits et gestes de tous.<\/p>\n<p>Son monde, c\u2019est aussi celui des mythes, des histoires, des l\u00e9gendes qui reviennent peupler son imaginaire, riche et foisonnant.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est pourquoi, comme cela se fait encore en Chine lors de l\u2019inauguration d\u2019une exposition, l\u2019artiste au centre de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement r\u00e9alise, pour son public, une \u0153uvre sur un sujet qui lui tiendra \u00e0 c\u0153ur. Cette habitude d\u00e9range parfois autant qu\u2019elle l\u2019interloque, le public occidental qui n\u2019a pas en t\u00eate les liens toujours si proches entre le trac\u00e9 du trait pictural et le trait calligraphique pour un peintre chinois, surtout si ce dernier appartient \u00e0 ce courant n\u00e9olettr\u00e9 qui continue de privil\u00e9gier l\u2019importance du lavis dans le monde contemporain de l\u2019Asie sinis\u00e9e. Cet acte de cr\u00e9ation renvoie \u00e0 la ma\u00eetrise, qui, oubli\u00e9e, laisse libre cours \u00e0 la fantaisie de l\u2019artiste.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est avec un th\u00e8me tao\u00efsant, celui des immortels jouant avec les grues que Zhou Qixiang f\u00eate ce Nouvel an lunaire tout proche.<\/p>\n<p>Comme je l\u2019avais not\u00e9 dans un article sur ce th\u00e8me, (1) \u00ab\u00a0i\u2019iconographie chinoise accorde une place importante \u00e0 la grue\u00a0: lorsqu\u2019elle passe dans le ciel, il convient toujours de jeter un regard afin de voir si un immortel ne la chevauche pas\u00a0! Ils sont plusieurs \u00e0 avoir adopt\u00e9 cette monture extraordinaire\u00a0: outre Laozi, le Ma\u00eetre du Pin rouge \u8d64\u677e\u5b50, ma\u00eetre de la Pluie, le troisi\u00e8me est le musicien Wangzi Qiao, ermite qui vivait parmi les grues qui, par groupes de huit, se mettent \u00e0 danser. On ne peut oublier Lu Ban\u9c81\u73ed, le divin charpentier et le Dieu de la Long\u00e9vit\u00e9 \u58fd\u8001\u7237, ce dernier fait partie de la triade tao\u00efste du bonheur, de la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 et de la long\u00e9vit\u00e9.
