Les Asiatiques, quant \u00e0 eux, collectionnent leur propre production artistique \u00e0 diverses fins ou se passionnent pour l\u2019acquisition d\u2019\u0153uvres \u00e9trang\u00e8res. L\u2019objet de l\u2019ouvrage<em> A la crois\u00e9e de collections d\u2019art entre Asie et Occident (du xix<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle \u00e0 nos jours)<\/em> est d\u2019identifier divers types de collectionneurs et de collections d\u2019art asiatique en Occident ou en Asie, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque moderne et contemporaine, \u00e0 travers une approche interdisciplinaire m\u00ealant histoire de l\u2019art, esth\u00e9tique, anthropologie, sociologie, \u00e9conomie ou politique. Les collections \u00e9tudi\u00e9es rel\u00e8vent tant\u00f4t de l\u2019art, tant\u00f4t de l\u2019artisanat, tant\u00f4t d\u2019artefacts d\u2019usage quotidien, populaire ou rituel. L\u2019ouvrage aborde ces questions selon plusieurs points de vue, celui des collectionneurs, celui des collections institutionnelles et collectives, celui du march\u00e9 de l\u2019art et des enjeux identitaires, avant d\u2019examiner les diverses formes que peuvent rev\u00eatir ces rencontres transculturelles.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Les vingt-huit contributions se font volontiers \u00e9cho\u00a0: les identit\u00e9s culturelles de la Chine, du Japon ou de Taiwan sont identifi\u00e9es \u00e0 plusieurs reprises comme jouant un r\u00f4le crucial dans la constitution des collections ou des mus\u00e9es. Le cas de la Cor\u00e9e est envisag\u00e9 \u00e0 propos de la collection Lee Ufan offerte au mus\u00e9e Guimet, puis de mani\u00e8re plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale en lien avec ce m\u00eame mus\u00e9e. Les collections d\u2019art d\u2019Insulinde du mus\u00e9e des Confluences de Lyon, li\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019histoire coloniale et religieuse, renvoient \u00e0 un autre article consacr\u00e9 aux Asmat. Le mus\u00e9e Chimei de Taiwan est examin\u00e9 tant\u00f4t du point de vue du collectionneur qui l\u2019a fond\u00e9, tant\u00f4t sous l\u2019angle de ses collections d\u2019art occidental et de leur r\u00e9ception locale. Les efforts pour promouvoir l\u2019art contemporain chinois de collectionneurs ou marchands occidentaux comme Uli Sigg, Dominique et Sylvain L\u00e9vy, Lorenz Helbling ou Robert Ho sont \u00e9voqu\u00e9s au fil des pages. Leur activit\u00e9 constitue d\u00e9sormais un champ de recherche \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re. Ces derniers manifestent m\u00eame souvent une certaine avance par rapport aux mus\u00e9es. Ainsi, par exemple, on red\u00e9couvre aujourd\u2019hui avec int\u00e9r\u00eat Sun Peicang, l\u2019un des rares collectionneurs chinois de l\u2019\u00e9poque r\u00e9publicaine (1911-1949) \u00e0 avoir acquis des peintures occidentales.<\/p>\n<p>Les collectionneurs, qui op\u00e8rent pour leur propre compte et investissent les objets de leur propre imaginaire, peuvent \u00eatre amen\u00e9s \u00e0 c\u00e9der leur collection \u00e0 des institutions mus\u00e9ales ou \u00e0 fonder des mus\u00e9es priv\u00e9s. La r\u00e9appropriation d\u2019une culture dans un contexte identique ou diff\u00e9rent de celui qui l\u2019a vu na\u00eetre, motiv\u00e9e en premier lieu par la recherche de plaisir visuel ou le d\u00e9sir d\u2019aura du collectionneur, t\u00e9moigne souvent, en r\u00e9alit\u00e9, d\u2019une ambition altruiste et \u00e9ducative. Fran\u00e7ois Dautresme (1925-2002), marchand et collectionneur, s\u2019est passionn\u00e9 pour la Chine du quotidien. Son r\u00eave de fonder un mus\u00e9e rassemblant l\u2019essentiel de sa collection a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 2018 dans la petite ville de Lod\u00e8ve dans l\u2019H\u00e9rault.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ambition de cet ouvrage est de consid\u00e9rer, avec un recul indispensable pour mieux comprendre le pr\u00e9sent, l\u2019\u00e9volution des pratiques, des regards, des go\u00fbts depuis le xix<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. Restructur\u00e9, repens\u00e9, au point m\u00eame d\u2019\u00eatre parfois con\u00e7u comme virtuel (la collection DSL), ou m\u00eame d\u00e9pourvu de collection (le Rekihaku), le mus\u00e9e d\u2019art refl\u00e8te tous ces changements. Un sentiment identitaire peut affleurer dans cette course vers l\u2019art\u00a0: \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 certains grands marchands d\u2019antiquit\u00e9s chinoises comme C.T. Loo (1880-1957) sont consid\u00e9r\u00e9s par la Chine comme des pilleurs de tr\u00e9sors, celle-ci manifeste une \u00e9vidente volont\u00e9 de se r\u00e9approprier son patrimoine en en faisant une question d\u2019honneur national. Une forme de nationalisme encourage en effet aujourd\u2019hui les collectionneurs chinois \u00e0 racheter leurs biens culturels.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019imbrication entre collection et march\u00e9 de l\u2019art ne peut \u00eatre totalement ignor\u00e9e, m\u00eame si, parfois, un don vient se substituer \u00e0 la transaction mon\u00e9taire. Une valeur marchande insignifiante au d\u00e9part peut conna\u00eetre une hausse fulgurante. Ainsi, l\u2019ouvrage traite aussi bien des ventes publiques d\u2019objets d\u2019art asiatique \u00e0 Paris entre 1858 et 1939 que des maisons de vente aux ench\u00e8res japonaises ou du march\u00e9 de l\u2019art chinois aujourd\u2019hui. La notion de \u00ab\u00a0monde de l\u2019art\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e9labor\u00e9e par Howard S.
