Vargas et d\u2019une chronique de Manuel Beltroy\u00a0: recherches crois\u00e9es pour pr\u00e9ciser l\u2019\u00e2ge de Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro (8)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>par Alain Cardenas-Castro<\/p>\n<p>Afin de lever l\u2019ambigu\u00eft\u00e9 quant \u00e0 la date de naissance de Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro pour laquelle il y a un doute concernant l\u2018ann\u00e9e<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>, j\u2019ai entrepris d\u2019analyser en d\u00e9tail la photographie la plus ancienne connue \u00e0 ce jour dans le corpus des documents iconographiques de la famille C\u00e1rdenas (ill. 1) tout en tenant compte des informations provenant d\u2019un article paru en 1964 dans un quotidien p\u00e9ruvien. Cardenas-C.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><u>Propos liminaires <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Je tiens \u00e0 rappeler auparavant, que, d\u2019une part, selon l\u2019\u00e9tat civil fran\u00e7ais Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro est n\u00e9 en 1899 et que, d\u2019autre part, selon ses dires, il est n\u00e9 en 1891.\u00a0En effet, seuls les jour et mois de naissance,\u00a0le 27 du mois de mai, sont v\u00e9rifi\u00e9s par les nombreuses missives d\u2019anniversaire qui lui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 adress\u00e9es au fil du temps. Sur ces diff\u00e9rences de dates, aucune explication ne m\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9e par Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Le document iconographique<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cette photographie ancienne (ill. 1) comporte des manques et malgr\u00e9 son \u00e9tat moyen de conservation du aux alt\u00e9rations du temps elle a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e certains indices venant contribuer \u00e0 la documentation biographique de Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro. Une trentaine de membres de diff\u00e9rentes familles posent ensemble. Comme il en sera fait mention ci-apr\u00e8s, ces familles qui sont reli\u00e9es par des alliances matrimoniales ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9es par Juan Manuel ainsi que quelques-uns des individus dont lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<p>Par ailleurs, cette photo d\u2019un temps ancestral, je l\u2019ai utilis\u00e9e pour illustrer le verso du carton d\u2019invitation quelque peu surprenant de l\u2019une de mes premi\u00e8res expositions monographiques, en 1988 (ill. 2 et 3). L\u2019exposition pr\u00e9sentait mes premiers assemblages\u00a0: des peintures murales modulables et transportables. Cardenas-Castro<\/p><\/div>\n<p>L\u2019analyse d\u00e9taill\u00e9e du document m\u2019a permis de trouver plusieurs indices qui m\u2019incitait \u00e0 proposer pour l\u2019ann\u00e9e de naissance de Juan Manuel une date <em>quasi rationnelle<\/em> car bien que mon p\u00e8re m\u2019ait inform\u00e9 de sa pr\u00e9sence sur cette photo, je ne m\u2019\u00e9tais pas pr\u00e9occup\u00e9 de la date \u00e0 laquelle ce clich\u00e9 avait \u00e9t\u00e9 pris ni quel en \u00e9tait l\u2019auteur, malgr\u00e9 le cachet du photographe au verso (ill. 4). Cardenas-C.)<\/p><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>L\u2019identification du photographe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une premi\u00e8re analyse de ce tirage argentique contrecoll\u00e9 sur carton \u2014 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l&rsquo;expertise de Jean-Christophe Domenech, photographe du Mus\u00e9e de l&rsquo;Homme &#8211; MNHN et ancien tireur professionnel \u2014 j\u2019ai constat\u00e9 que le cachet au dos, sans pr\u00e9cision de date, mentionnait un auteur, le photographe Max. T. Vargas [Maximiliano Tel\u00e9sforo Vargas]. Ce photographe important dans l\u2019histoire de la photographie p\u00e9ruvienne \u2014 qui influencera de nombreux photographes dont Martin Chambi \u2014 est n\u00e9 \u00e0 Arequipa en 1874. Il a commenc\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re de photographe en 1896 en cr\u00e9ant son premier studio photo dans sa ville natale. L\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante il se pr\u00e9sente au concours photographique d\u00e9partemental organis\u00e9 par la ville de Cuzco et remporte le premier prix, la m\u00e9daille d\u2019argent.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>L\u2019ann\u00e9e probable de la prise de vue<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On peut consid\u00e9rer que sa reconnaissance acquise a rapport\u00e9 \u00e0 Max T. Vargas quelques commandes locales de prises de vue \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser peu de temps apr\u00e8s ce succ\u00e8s en cette ann\u00e9e 1897. Ce point pr\u00e9cis est rapport\u00e9 par la presse de l\u2019\u00e9poque<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> et il est fort probable que la photographie de la pr\u00e9sente analyse soit l\u2019une d\u2019entre elles\u00a0: une occasion pour les membres de ces familles parmi les plus importantes d\u2019Urubamba, les C\u00e1rdenas, Castro et Ochoa, de se r\u00e9unir pour fixer ce regroupement familial m\u00e9morable par l\u2019objectif d\u2019un artiste talentueux.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Le recoupement entre la date pr\u00e9sum\u00e9e de la prise de vue et l\u2019\u00e2ge suppos\u00e9 de Juan Manuel Cardenas-Castro<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>M\u00eame si certains protagonistes de cette sc\u00e8ne champ\u00eatre ne sont pas encore tous connus, certains ont cependant \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9s par Juan Manuel. Il s\u2019agit de son p\u00e8re Manuel C\u00e1rdenas (ill. 5), ensuite de sa m\u00e8re, Maria Castro (ill. 6), et enfin de lui-m\u00eame (ill. 7) pr\u00e9sent en bas \u00e0 droite de la photo. Il est visiblement entour\u00e9 par les bras d\u2019une femme qui tient \u00e9galement un plus jeune enfant non identifi\u00e9. Juan Manuel, quant \u00e0 lui, doit \u00eatre \u00e2g\u00e9 de cinq ans environ. Si l\u2019on consid\u00e8re cet \u00e2ge pr\u00e9sum\u00e9 de l\u2019enfant et la date de la prise de vue du clich\u00e9 datant tr\u00e8s probablement de 1897, ces indices correspondent aux dires de Cet article<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> relate les temps de jeunesse pass\u00e9s \u00e0 Lima en compagnie de Juan Manuel et de Carlos Raygada<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a>, ses deux amis avec lesquels tous trois ils ont form\u00e9 <em>une trinit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00ab\u00a0amigos del Arte\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> durant la p\u00e9riode des ann\u00e9es 1912 \u00e0 1918. Bien que Carlos Raygada (ill. 9) mentionne dans une interview donn\u00e9e en 1951 la parution de son premier dessin dans la revue \u00ab\u00a0Variedades\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de quatorze ans, en 1912, l\u2019activit\u00e9 professionnelle ainsi que les frasques relat\u00e9es par manuel Beltroy dans cette chronique ne peuvent \u00eatre attribu\u00e9es \u00e0 un gar\u00e7on de treize ans, l\u2019\u00e2ge de Juan Manuel, si l\u2019on suppose sa naissance en 1899. Manuel Beltroy r\u00e9digera pour le quotidien p\u00e9ruvien \u00ab\u00a0Correo\u00a0\u00bb une chronique hebdomadaire intitul\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0Archivo Sentimental\u00a0\u00bb.
