Ce sont trois mots formul\u00e9s par Zeng Sankai qui r\u00e9sument l\u2019ensemble de ses derni\u00e8res productions pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es \u00e0 Paris, dans les espaces d\u2019exposition de la remarquable Galerie-librairie Impressions.<\/p>\n<p>Zeng Sankai est n\u00e9 en 1974 \u00e0 Quanzhou, dans la province du Fujian. Pour cette premi\u00e8re exposition en France, il a voulu exp\u00e9rimenter de nouvelles mani\u00e8res de faire \u00e0 partir de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s et de mat\u00e9riaux utilis\u00e9s\u00a0pour cette occasion.<\/p>\n<p>La peinture de paysage est au c\u0153ur du travail de Zeng Sankai. Ce professeur de peinture chinoise \u00e0 l\u2019Institut des arts de Chine \u00e0 P\u00e9kin, est pass\u00e9 ma\u00eetre dans l\u2019art du Shanshui.\u00a0Mais, c\u2019est en dehors des limites de la tradition que Zeng Sankai propose quelques morceaux choisis, tous issus de sa derni\u00e8re s\u00e9rie\u00a0: une centaine de peintures d\u00e9clin\u00e9es sous diff\u00e9rents formats. R\u00e9alis\u00e9es sur soie, ces \u0153uvres peuvent, au premier regard, se lire comme des paysages traditionnels. Une lecture plus attentive, entra\u00eene tr\u00e8s rapidement au-del\u00e0 de cette limite. Il s\u2019inspire \u00e9galement des productions litt\u00e9raires et plastiques de la dynastie Tang (618 \u2013 907) comme de la po\u00e9sie de Li Bai, Du Fu et Wang Wei. En regardant de plus pr\u00e8s, on per\u00e7oit aussi les r\u00e9miniscences des peintres de cette p\u00e9riode, Li Sixun et son fils Li Zhaodao, dans l\u2019apport de notes de couleurs vert et bleu sur l\u2019un des deux grands formats expos\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Ces grandes compositions peuvent rappeler au premier regard celles des artistes de l\u2019abstraction lyrique, notamment de l\u2019expressionisme abstrait. Mais c\u2019est plut\u00f4t \u00e0 certaines \u0153uvres de Kandinsky que cette s\u00e9rie s\u2019apparente. L\u2019importance du signe qui se transforme en couleur par le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de synesth\u00e9sie dans les \u0153uvres du pr\u00e9curseur de l\u2019art abstrait se retrouve dans la perception sonore traduite par un processus diff\u00e9rents chez Zeng Sankai. Aller de la musique vers le signe et la couleur, c\u2019est certainement l\u00e0 que r\u00e9side la particularit\u00e9 de cette s\u00e9rie de peintures.<\/p>\n<p>Zeng Sankai fait de la musique un support, il l\u2019appr\u00e9hende \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gal d\u2019un mat\u00e9riau qu\u2019il mod\u00e8le avant de le retranscrire en signes et en couleurs. Les images mentales provoqu\u00e9es par l\u2019\u00e9coute des sonorit\u00e9s de la fl\u00fbte et du violon \u00e0 deux cordes chinois, instruments qu\u2019il affectionne, sont ainsi mat\u00e9rialis\u00e9es par des traces qui apparaissent progressivement sur la toile. Cette ouverture permet de p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans le paysage, de se fondre dedans. Un cheminement qui peut rappeler <em>Landscape Painting and Beyond<\/em>, une \u0153uvre de Bertrand Lavier, qui, avant d\u2019\u00eatre un cr\u00e9ateur d\u00e9passant les fronti\u00e8res en m\u00e9langeant les genres artistiques a \u00e9t\u00e9 paysagiste. Ces \u0153uvres participent d\u2019une m\u00eame proposition\u00a0: consid\u00e9rer le paysage \u00e0 travers l\u2019espace et le temps.<\/p>\n<p>Une s\u00e9rie de peintures anciennes de 1998 et 2003 et les nouvelles compositions pr\u00e9sentes durant cette exposition permettent un cheminement parmi des signes vari\u00e9s. Zeng Sankai s\u2019applique \u00e0 m\u00e9moriser ces signes au gr\u00e9 de ses observations afin de les interpr\u00e9ter de mani\u00e8re <em>sensible<\/em>. Ainsi, il peut \u00eatre attentif aux gouttes d\u2019eau de pluie observ\u00e9es \u00e0 travers la transparence d\u2019une vitre pour les m\u00e9tamorphoser ensuite en cercles r\u00e9currents sur la toile. Plusieurs formes g\u00e9om\u00e9triques, quelquefois \u00e0 angles arrondis, rappellent les motifs des sceaux appos\u00e9s sur les peintures chinoises. A ce propos l\u2019importance des sceaux pour Zeng Sankai est fondamentale, il est l\u2019un des sp\u00e9cialistes de cette discipline \u2013 aussi un des arts les plus classiques de cette civilisation \u2013 et membre du prestigieux comit\u00e9 de l\u2019Association de calligraphie et de gravure des sceaux en Chine.<\/p>\n<p>Traduire subjectivement le r\u00e9el et proposer des paysages r\u00eav\u00e9s peut sembler une m\u00e9thode commun\u00e9ment adopt\u00e9e par de nombreux artistes. Parmi eux, Paul Klee, cit\u00e9 par Zeng Senkai. Certainement car le ma\u00eetre allemand a, d\u2019abord, \u00e9t\u00e9 un p\u00e9dagogue, ensuite, parce qu\u2019il est parti d\u2019une tradition picturale impressionniste bas\u00e9e sur la lumi\u00e8re et la couleur pour l\u2019adapter aux probl\u00e9matiques de contraste et de tonalit\u00e9. Et surtout en raison de ses \u0153uvres qui ont illustr\u00e9 des po\u00e8mes chinois.\u00a0Les paysages r\u00eav\u00e9s, traduits par la technique de l\u2019aquarelle noire mise au point par Paul Klee ont aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 remarqu\u00e9s par Zeng Sankai. Il rappelle durant cet entretien qu\u2019 \u00ab\u00a0il y a cinq couleurs dans le noir. Ces couleurs qui c\u00f4toient l\u2019encre de Chine sont dilu\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de pigments et de gomme arabique qui se r\u00e9partissent par un \u00e9quilibre pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment recherch\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le cheminement de Zeng Sankai, au fil de ce parcours, \u00e0 travers l\u2019\u00e9vocation des paysages de son enfance, men\u00e9e par l\u2019inspiration volontairement plus musicale qu\u2019issue du paysage \u2014\u00a0<em>shanshui<\/em> en chinois \u2014 \u00e9tablit un parcours <em>sensible<\/em>, que l\u2019on esp\u00e8re encore retrouver dans ses odyss\u00e9ess \u00e0 venir. Les nouveaux horizons qu\u2019il sugg\u00e8re, les \u00e9changes qu\u2019il propose en m\u00ealant les cultures d\u2019Est en Ouest, participent de l\u2019importance de cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement <em>crois\u00e9 <\/em>propos\u00e9 par un artiste reconnu en Chine en parall\u00e8le d&rsquo;un lien patrimonial qui, d\u00e9j\u00e0 plusieurs d\u00e9cennies ne cesse d&rsquo;encourager une
