Le commissariat de l\u2019exposition a \u00e9t\u00e9 assur\u00e9 par Isabelle Baticle, plasticienne et sinisante.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>par Christophe Comentale<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0La peinture est bien vivante en Chine\u00a0! Une solide transmission de la peinture traditionnelle, un esprit curieux des autres cultures, un brin de jeu et beaucoup de po\u00e9sie font de bons ingr\u00e9dients pour une peinture savoureuse\u00a0\u00bb. <em>Propos in\u00e9dits<\/em>, Isabelle Baticle.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est de Wang Li dont il va \u00eatre question ici, car, selon l\u2019adage, \u00ab\u00a0qui trop embrasse, mal \u00e9treint\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0! Son int\u00e9r\u00eat au personnage le fait, d\u00e8s cette \u00e9poque, repr\u00e9senter majoritairement ce type de sujet, qui reste au fil de l\u2019histoire de la peinture un p\u00f4le aigu d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat des cr\u00e9ateurs. De 2001 \u00e0 2002, il effectue dans le m\u00eame \u00e9tablissement un stage de calligraphie. Il entre en fonction dans cet institut jusqu\u2019en 2004\u00a0; il obtient une ma\u00eetrise en 2011, s\u2019attaque ensuite au d\u00e9licat exercice du doctorat sous la direction de Wu Shanming \u5434\u5c71\u660e et Fan Jingzhong\u8303\u666f\u4e2d. Ce qui permet l\u2019obtention d\u2019un poste de professeur dans cet \u00e9tablissement.<\/p>\n<p>Ces quelques donn\u00e9es sommaires permettent de voir une continuit\u00e9 dans le recrutement des enseignants en art en Chine, un processus somme toute assez classique\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0je donne des cours de technique picturale \u00e0 des \u00e9tudiants qui vont, \u00e0 leur tour, une fois le dipl\u00f4me obtenu, devenir enseignants dans les lyc\u00e9es\u00a0\u00bb r\u00e9sume Wang Li lors d\u2019un entretien r\u00e9cent. Cette permanence de la technique, surtout dans le domaine du lavis, n\u2019emp\u00eache nullement les cr\u00e9ateurs chinois actuels de se positionner d\u2019embl\u00e9e par rapport \u00e0 une d\u00e9marche personnelle forte.<\/p>\n<p>En marge de son activit\u00e9 d\u2019enseignant, de praticien \u00ab qui d\u00e9veloppe une th\u00e9orie acquise et dispens\u00e9e comme un vecteur de travail et de composition\u00a0\u00bb, Wang Li aime aussi \u00e9crire. A ce propos, les \u0153uvres se succ\u00e8dent depuis une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es chez diff\u00e9rents \u00e9diteurs chinois. Il y d\u00e9veloppe ses id\u00e9es sur la peinture au lavis, les interactions peinture \u2013 soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>De la douce chaleur de la distance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est avec cette formule qui sait allier chair et os \u2013 la structure et la mati\u00e8re &#8211; qu\u2019Isabelle Baticle d\u00e9finit le propos de cet artiste. La formule est bien choisie, car, \u00e0 y voir de plus pr\u00e8s, les personnages se succ\u00e9dant au fil des 27 \u0153uvres accroch\u00e9es sur les cimaises des diff\u00e9rents niveaux de la galerie interloquent et attirent par diff\u00e9rents d\u00e9tails. Des d\u00e9tails qui, en quelque sorte, comme on le ressent de fa\u00e7on assez instinctive, g\u00e9n\u00e8rent confus\u00e9ment une familiarit\u00e9, celle, positive, en l\u2019occurrence, du <em>d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu<\/em>, mais un <em>d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu<\/em> fourmillant d\u2019indices connus, de cette connaissance \u00e9tudi\u00e9e, approch\u00e9e au fil de cette civilisation chinoise qui sait jouer de la complexit\u00e9 de ses racines, des fluctuations de son Histoire. Un ensemble qui g\u00e9n\u00e8re la mise en espace d\u2019un parcours, celui de Wang Li face \u00e0 une richesse culturelle, la sienne, celle de ses envies, de ses identifications directes ou allusives. La chose ainsi dite renvoie \u00e0 la densit\u00e9 des \u0153uvres, et c\u2019est l\u00e0 que le regard et le d\u00e9sir de chacun voguent dans le sillage de la complexit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre qui fait face\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Dans un deuxi\u00e8me temps, un temps autre, pas forc\u00e9ment celui de l\u2019imm\u00e9diatet\u00e9, mais plut\u00f4t de la projection qui enrichit l\u2019\u0153uvre par la r\u00e9flexion lente, un sentiment de confusion, de brouillage des images rend ces lavis comme rebelles \u00e0 une analyse qui voudrait les r\u00e9duire \u00e0 une formule de type <em>lavis contemporain<\/em>. La formule se r\u00e9v\u00e8le creuse, anachronique et surtout bien incompl\u00e8te\u00a0! Les \u0153uvres taraudent par leur richesse de stratifications, celle qui montre le temps n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 Wang Li pour assimiler les donn\u00e9es vues ici et l\u00e0, des revues lues dans une p\u00e9riode d\u2019apprentissage, de recherche comme autant au fil des lieux visit\u00e9s, les mus\u00e9es et galeries, bien s\u00fbr, mais, cet ogre insatiable tire le plus s\u00e9duisant parti des sites, des applications sur lesquels il met en ligne des publications qui disent, avec la succession des images et aussi des textes et citations, l\u2019impact du moment face \u00e0 un d\u00e9tail, f\u00fbt-il a priori, banal au tout venant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La densit\u00e9 de l\u2019approche\u00a0et la pluralit\u00e9 des sources <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En fait, les \u0153uvres se laissent approcher, mais, tr\u00e8s justement, refusent la familiarit\u00e9. Et ce regard sur des femmes, des couples, pour lesquels Wang Li a choisi la quasi nudit\u00e9 est le crit\u00e8re le plus fort pour imposer la distance. Sauf approche ou envie autre, aucune n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de se m\u00ealer \u00e0 ces personnages, des \u00eatres pas compl\u00e8tement humains, en raison, d\u2019une part, de leur aspect allusif, rendu par des \u00e9l\u00e9ments sexu\u00e9s mais gu\u00e8re plus et de l\u2019autre, par leur proximit\u00e9 \u00e0 des bribes de nature, une souche d\u2019arbre qui les prot\u00e8ge, les recueille, les enl\u00e8ve au cadre urbain et normalisateur. Ces femmes proches des anciennes V\u00e9nus pal\u00e9olithiques, source de f\u00e9condit\u00e9 plus que de plaisir, laissent, \u00e9trangement, planer une sensualit\u00e9 jugul\u00e9e, mais pas compl\u00e8tement, car, si l\u2019on va au fond des choses, ces \u00e9vocations sylvestres renvoient \u00e0 des pulsions de l\u2019imm\u00e9diatet\u00e9, mais avec un c\u00f4t\u00e9 fuyant pour ne garder que la force de l\u2019instant fix\u00e9. Cet instant, il renvoie \u00e0 d\u2019autres images, celles de statuettes fun\u00e9raires dont les dynasties chinoises sont friandes, d\u00e8s les Royaumes combattants (V<sup>e<\/sup> s. av. notre \u00e8re), mais surtout sous la dynastie des Han (II<sup>e<\/sup> s. av. notre \u00e8re \u2013 IIe s.). Comment mieux cacher l\u2019\u00eatre humain qu\u2019en livrant un substitut\u00a0? Cette approche confuc\u00e9enne, est, ici, devenue une fa\u00e7on de vivre et de restituer des tranches de vie o\u00f9 tout est frontal mais la frontalit\u00e9 de Wang Li est douce et chaleureuse, elle m\u2019a rappel\u00e9 la douceur et la chaleur que Pan Y\u00fcliang a mis dans les repr\u00e9sentations de ses couples. Pas de relent d\u2019acad\u00e9misme, comme, h\u00e9las, cela se v\u00e9rifie dans la majorit\u00e9 des repr\u00e9sentations de personnages de l\u2019art chinois. La qui\u00e9tude des sens, une sorte de temps bien v\u00e9cu, livr\u00e9 \u00e0 travers la distance de l\u2019Histoire, est, en tout cas, \u00e0 mon sens, r\u00e9ussie et convaincante. En effet, quoi de plus navrant que des morceaux d\u2019un r\u00e9el disparate sans que cela soit, d\u2019une fa\u00e7on ou d\u2019une autre appropriable \u2013 ou pas \u2013 mais dot\u00e9 d\u2019une coh\u00e9rence interne ou entour\u00e9e du brio du jeu qui est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9. Car face aux \u0153uvres, la fiction devient actuelle, voire r\u00e9elle. Elle s\u2019est impos\u00e9e en douceur, assez facilement. Une fois cette premi\u00e8re constatation pass\u00e9e, les causes de cet int\u00e9r\u00eat pour l\u2019\u0153uvre ne sont pas encore bien connues, ni compl\u00e8tement restitu\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wang Li, <em>Couple<\/em> (2016) et <em>Femme-arbre<\/em> (2016), lavis sur papier<\/p>\n<p>Que Wang Li joue \u00e0 donner une approche quasi nabie \u00e0 ses personnages, cela est ind\u00e9niable, les jeux de touches polychromes d\u2019un Bonnard, d\u2019un Vuillard ou d\u2019un postnabi comme Michel Debi\u00e8ve, le montrent. Ces emprunts une fois signal\u00e9s, seule demeure importante la sensibilit\u00e9 de Wang Li \u00e0 cette polychromie de la douceur. Elle renvoie si besoin est d\u2019avoir des r\u00e9f\u00e9rents autres, aux \u0153uvres de la p\u00e9riode insulaire de Gauguin, avec aussi cette m\u00eame sensualit\u00e9 pleine. Une oeuvre de2012, <em>Lac de jour vert<\/em> (\u6e56\u5929\u4e00\u78a7) livre le corps monolithique, comme us\u00e9, d\u2019une femme-statue, assez proches des cr\u00e9atures n\u00e9olithiques excav\u00e9es dans les environs de Rodez et conserv\u00e9es au mus\u00e9e Fenail. Une m\u00eame distance aux autres les entoure, les prot\u00e8ge et leur laisse toute leur identit\u00e9, a contrario de telle autre, <em>La force de l\u2019univers<\/em> (\u4e07\u7269\u751f\u957f), qui livre, comme pris sur le fait un couple anim\u00e9 de d\u00e9sir, mais un d\u00e9sir que le cadre intimiste dans lequel il est envisag\u00e9, rend en quelque sorte tr\u00e8s appropriable.
